Joan Ruff and Gary Ruff at Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico (Maybe 2003)? Posted by Picasa
It's the last day of October. Just working on the next song and learning some really cool things with the music sequencer!

Also, I am organizing my photos of myself better so when the girls ask for them I know where they are. Made them more presentable (lighting, etc).

Then I ran across a picture of my Mom and I. This picture is my favorite. We were visiting the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. I took this picture! And, even more perplexing is that my Mom and I never sat on that bench together at the same time! The miracles of modern photography! Ron, my Mother's companion, had slpiced together my picture and her picture together. So, it looks like we are sitting on the same bench at the same time. I never get tired of this picture (as you see above). Also, it will appear at times when I feel like posting it in the future.

I have a lot to do today. Bye!

This week in the life and times of K-Rhap. You know, inspiration can be a detriment sometimes. That is to say when the inspiration is not there, the words do not flow right for the song. Kind of like this blog entry. I tried to write a song combining "Drive" by the Cars and "Nothing at all" by Heart. You know, I find it hard to write it unless there is some inspirational music or beat to hear while I write. Also, to do it just for fun without ever intending on publishing the song is meaningless.

So I go on and learn more about how I will present my music to the world. So now I know I have to have a subject for the song that means something to me. And, I have to have music already scored for the song to become "rounded".

This is what happens when a guy tries to learn music on his own! I bet most music students get this lesson the first day of class! But I think a musician who studies what he or she likes without theoretical influences (standards) and then goes on to create his own theory will have a possible outcome like The Beatles or Elvis or The Doors even. Maybe include Bob Dylan in that list too.

If everyone sings the same song then there will never be a breakout.

The next song I'm working on is for New Years. I have most of the music scored. Just got to find an angle for the lyrics. i gave myself a little more time to promote the song this time, but I think it might not be enough, still. I'm beginning to think 3 months before the clebration date (ie: New Years Song is Jan 1 so the song should be done and promoted starting on Oct 31).

It's all one big experiment out her. Good luck with your journey my friend, Peace Out, Gary

Drive

Who's gonna tell you when, It's too late,
Who's gonna tell you things, Aren't so great.

You cant go on, thinkin', Nothings' wrong, but bye,
Who's gonna drive you home, tonight.?

Who's gonna pick you up, When You fall?
Who's gonna hang it up, When you call?
Who's gonna pay attention, To your dreams?
And who's gonna plug their ears, When you scream?

You can't go on, thinkin' Nothings wrong, but bye, (who's gonna drive you) (who's gonna drive you) Who's gonna drive you home, tonight? (who's gonna drive you home) (bye baby) (bye baby) (bye baby) (bye baby)

Who's gonna hold you down, When you shake?
Who's gonna come around, When you break?

You can't go on, thinkin', Nothin's wrong, but bye, (Who's gonna drive you) (who's gonna drive you) Who's gonna drive you home, tonight? (who's gonna drive you home)

Oh, you know you can't go on, thinkin', Nothin's wrong, (Who's gonna drive you) (Who's gonna drive you home) Who's gonna drive you home, tonight? (bye baby) (bye baby) (bye baby)

I swear Nadya, I always carry a camera at the beach! Posted by Picasa
I would walk home every evening
Through the pyramids of light
I would feed myself on silence
Wash it down with empty nights
Then your innocent distractions
Hit me so hard
My emotional reaction
Caught me off guard
It was nothing at all
Like anything I had felt before
And it was nothing at all
Like I thought no it's so much more
No one else has ever made
Me feel this way
When I asked you how you did it
You just say
It was nothing at all
Now I walk home every evening
And my feet are quick to move
Cause I know my destination
Is a warm and waiting you
From our first communication
It was clear
Any thought of moderation
Would soon disappear
It was nothing at all
Like anything I had felt before
And it was nothing at all
Like I thought no, it's so much more
No one else has ever made
Me feel this way
When I asked you how you did it
You just say
It was nothing at all
Then your innocent distractions
Hit me so hard
My emotional reaction
Caught me off guard
It was nothing at all
Like anything I had felt before
And it was nothing at all
Like I thought no, it's so much more
No one else has ever made
Me feel this way
When I asked you how you did it
You just say
It was nothing at all

The new Halloween Song by K-Rhap is finished today! Yoo Hooo! I always like it when I finish a song and have it ready for the world (some songs are more ready than others :) ).

I think having a Halloween song ready 2 weeks before halloween is cutting too close when you consider I still have to prome the song. I am using www.Live365.com as one of the promoters. I am anticipating my ad to appear this week sometime in the Greensheet here in the Dallas area.

Of course there is Submitnet and I am trying CD Register also (part of indie360.com). if you got some ideas on promotion, besides just making good songs :) then please let me know. Word of mouth works well too.

As i was saying, I love it when I finish a song. Even though I usually take a small break for a week or two before tackling the next project, sometimes I start to visualize the next song. Sometimes I get excited about it early, and then 2 days later I am working on another song full blast again! So much for that 2 week break!

Man do I have a long ways to go. You know you are ready when you can make the song sound and be heard exactly the way you plan it. I usually assemble the whole musical part of the song then adapt the words in later. This often causes me to chang the musical parts, but it seems to be the way that works for me. Okay, sorry to bore you with all that. Us songwriters do get chatty sometimes. And I will end on that note. -Peace Out, Gary

Nadya in Krasnaja. And you thought Russian woman carries a sack for potatoes! Posted by Picasa

I said they look their best outside the house! In the house they are vry comfortable, and by the way...leave your shoes at the door. They will give you slippers. Who is more relaxed? Nadya or the cat (Divan)? Posted by Picasa
Poem, Song or Thought
In the beginning there was the curiosity that lead the way to the light.
Every day was filled with promises of delight.
Champagne on special ocassions,
Roses AND candy on Valentine's Day,
Romantic Love letters, and the like.
And while that was a long time ago
And light has dimmed
The love is still there in the memories we shared
Together.

Poem or Song or Thought
Speaking on the subject of the beautiful woman of Russia and the Ukraine: It is also amazing to me their education levels and their desire to have a family at such a young age. You know that it is most common for Russian woman to marry before the age of 23. Until that time they will continue to live with their parents and become more educated. These are the most beautiful women in their country, so they do not have a problem finding men. The problem is the men. Maybe the men drink too much (for the Russian lady). Maybe the men are already married. It is the ladies thought that they are too beautiful and refined for a man who is not fit for the duty of loving her. She really is seeking love, not a better life in the USA or wherever. She dreams of the man who will be honest and able to provide her love and a family. I just wanted to speak out about this because I hear so many times that they are after citizenship. Trust me, I could spend hours talking (imagine that) to dispell that myth, but I still would never be able to sway you to my way (and their way) of thinking.

Nadya again. I am amazed by the fact that one person can have so many different looks, and it is their culture to never leave the house without looking your best. Posted by Picasa

I lve Russian woman. They are my weakness in life. They are so honest and sincere. Oh, and faithful and not worried about trivial issues. They are very forgiving too. I urge you to look into visiting this part of the world and experience these lady's. Posted by Picasa

Music, Music, Music, ah yes....music! I'm working on the Halloween song. Hope to be done with it and have it posted today, tomorrow maybe.

This week in the adventure-less life of the super prowler Gary Ruff. I signed up for a music promotion service. Visit www.freemusicreport.com and your website will start to get more hits! I will try to mention radio stations and dj's I run across in the business as I progress. Here's a couple: www.kwso.org . Small radio stations rule! And big internet music site rule too! www.fishthemusic.com . So there you go. Two resources for you to explore.

Tailgaters. Time is money. I ain't got no time so, I ain't got no money! Due to the fact I'm producing this Halloween Song, and regular other chores, I can't make this many games this season.

Have a great week! Gary
