I looked up this definition because I keep hearing about NAMM. It stands for National Association of Music Merchants. It is held out in Anaheim, California, USA in January of every year. It is not a General Public event, and is for members in the music trade business.

I think I'll give this new little program a try called "Songsmith" by Microsoft. It backs up your singing, even if you just hum in what you are suppose to be singing. Sounds promising!

Well, it seems as though my computer is full of half baked songs. And I continue to hit road blocks (a road block called "talent" keeps getting in the way).
So, starting today, when I start a song, I must FINISH it. I can ammend my process the next song, AFTER I finish the song I am working on.
My process begins with some kind of inspiration, so here is one:
http://video.yahoo.com/network/100063489?v=4257022&l=100063517
Girl playing a Blackeye Pea Song... Hip Hop Violinist.
Also, I'm considering putting a stop watch on the song too, to cut down on goofing around on the internet.
Let's get the song done first and see what happens.
It will be called WOW!
Peace Out, Gary Ruff
Whatever you can imagine, the wish, the dream, the will, the WILL... will come true someday. I beg you to imagine for the will of good.
Peace Out, Gary Ruff
PS Don't give up on the past and yesterday, for it is only the inspiration for tomorrow. In other words, today's news, no matter how bad it is, is the inspiration to do better for tomorrow.
Dragon Singing
“Dragon Speaking” allows a user to speak into a microphone, and then the words are typed out onto the screen. I imagine a day when a company like FONIX will merge the idea of Dragon Speaking to Dragon Interpreting (BabelFish); “I speak English into the computer, but it types professionally in Russian”.
And today I imagined “Dragon Singing”. I can't sing worth a hoot. Imagine if I could type in my words to the the song, and then the computer delivered me alternatives and choices to a singing voice complete with melody and perhaps some rhythm.
Why type in the words, when I can just speak them in, naturally (intentional play on their slogan)?
Let's say I have this wonderful song. I am a male, old, but rich with ideas still. And I think my song will sound best by Britney Spears. Why not imagine a Japanese Britney Spears? Okay. How do we get to there from here? (FX: to there from here, there from here, from here, here...)
My path includes developers I mentioned before, and some soon, who will best serve the solution.
First, in music (the computer world), we will need a VST. It will allow me to insert a track of instruments or vocals. Computer Music is my choice for the people who would know VST better than anyone.
Second, we will need this VST to be user friendly. It will allow the user to speak directly into the microphone, thus producing words in the users own native language. This is much like a “text to speech” program. This is the Dragon Speaking program.
Third, we will need the user to choose male or female voice, and range of her or his voice. In essence, we are allowing the user to start to morph his idea into reality. He imagines Brittney Spears singing in Japanese. The developers of “Sweet Ann” are my choice.
Fourth, the VST renders the words to a mono tone in the language and voice (maybe a Hannah Montana voice sounds better?). (Ain't no link, because it ain't been done) :) (Idea Muse?)
Fifth, the VST allows an “Elastic Audio” or “Melodyne” feature. This is where you can adjust the pitch. Let me add the “YouTube” link to another idea.
Sixth, and never before created, the user can try his or her best to sing in the song, then the VST program will make adjustments between the user and the the program output. (This solves the problem of “when” the fake singer should sing the words). “Build it, and they will come”.
Seventh, I am not the first to come up with this idea. But, I feel I am the first to find the direct path to the solution. Check out the links to each step I have created. Let's get together as a unit and make this happen.
Eighth, The other link that I must mention is Digital-Ear. This software program was designed for turning sounds such as vocals into midi. I think this would be a great lead to the development of my dream.
Ninth, yes.... MIDI! If we could develop a hardware device that “midi ins” the vocals, and the program is located on a hardware device, in combination with the VST program, this could be very profitable. I liken to Line 6, and there method of using midi to make money.
Dreams are with everyone, and dreams are sold and bought everyday. When the dream is given away for free, I guess that makes me the “dream whore”. So be it. But please know that I am happy, and happiness can't be bought or sold (if you are true to yourself).
Peace Out, Gary Ruff (lol the dream whore!) aka: The Compusician
PS And you need an “idea” guy? Hire me!
Note FYI:
When I first finished typing the words “Dragon Singing”, I checked to see if I spelled “Singing” right. I realized how close the word was to “Signing”. And, that was when my other idea was born. If I could speak into a computer that will type my words, then why can't there be a program for average Joe like me, to have it convert to sign language?
PPS I believe in the saying that you should, “Put it out into the universe, wait.... wait.... wait some more......... and then it will come true.” The question really is, “Where will you be, when the dream comes true?”
PPPS I'll probably be dead, just like the best of the best before their time.

"Unknown Artist" on the iPod player or mp3 player sucks when you as the musician have finished the song. I personally use Audacity to enter in my ID tags for the song. I just learned (always learning!), IDv2 is a better choice than v1.
I have rounded up a tutorial on the whole thing about ID tags and how to change them and make them look good on your music player.

Winners do not ever TRY to win.
It sounds astonishing, yes? Let me repeat it, and then defend it. Winners do not EVER try to win. Yes, of course we all WANT to win, but winners know there is something more.
When the softball team carried the opposing team's player to victory, was it a win, or was it a loss?
And if you investigated the link, you could make your own conclusion.
In transportation we feel the same way. We will do whatever we can to deliver the load. We want to make winners of everyone in the company. And when the day comes that there is ice and snow on the road, our leaders want to know that we did as little as damage as possible (possibly none).
So, what does is take to be a winner?
EMOTION
Emotion is the ONE thing that ALL winners can rely upon. E-M-O-T-I-O-N!
“Emotion”. It is what it is, the most important facet of the game, and NEVER can be measured.
So.... “Winners are those that can harness “emotion” to their own advantage, and publicly can emotionally make a POSITIVE difference.”
And you had no idea what winners were, until now.
I strive to be a winner. I am an EMOTIONAL being. I will help my team ... be winners too!
Peace Out, Gary Ruff
PS. I don't mind losing, as long as I am the ONE, who has enough CHARACTER to develop the next player to be a spectacular spectacle. And he then... he can mention me in his most “INSPIRATIONAL” players list.
And that is what a winner is. ONE THAT INSPIRES OTHERS TO BE THEIR BEST.
Be your best and inspire others, no matter what the competition is. EVERYONE, can be the winner.

I did it, and I am now in love with Symphony, Classical, and Orchestra type music.
I feel like I can express myself more clearly than when I try to sing it.
Maybe I will incorporate this to Rock or Rap, but for now I want to explore the Symphony for a while.
Peace Out, Gary Ruff
