FAQ New DOT Medical Rules

2014 - The DOT is constantly coming out with new rules affecting Truck Drivers.  Be educated as to what they are doing, and do not be scared.  Be prepared.

Here is the LINK to the most asked questions, straight from the horses mouth.  Please add information to this blog for other drivers to see.  And, may God Bless the Truckers.

New DOT Medical Rules for Truckers

2014 - While I see no new rules for the trucker's DOT requirements right now (and please correct me if I am wrong), The Medical Examiners will need to be on the Registry by May 21, 2014.

The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) is a new Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) program. It requires all medical examiners (MEs) who wish to perform physical examinations for interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers to be trained and certified in FMCSA physical qualification standards. Medical examiners who have completed the training and successfully passed the test are included in an online directory on the National Registry website.

You still have to file with your state that you are self certified, in most cases.  I see no advantage to getting your physical done before this date of May 21, 2014 however, I do see an advantage if your personal, private doctor is NOT on the registry at any time.  I am sure that advantage will disappear with new laws in the future.  (The advantage is that if your private doctor is not on the registry, the registry that the government uses to grant medical certificates, then your private doctor information is still private)

Here is the LINK to the National Registry to check if your private doctor is on the list.  I never recommend lying about your medical disposition.  I have to say that.

Peace Out, my fellow truck drivers, Gary
